While Seoul is home to countless palaces and centuries-old landmarks, it also offers places that tell the story of Korea's more recent past. From liberation and rapid industrialization to democratization and cultural growth, the nation's modern history has shaped the Korea we know today. One of the best places to explore this journey is the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History.
Located close to Gyeongbokgung Palace in central Seoul, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History opened in 2012 as Korea's first national museum dedicated to the country's modern and contemporary history. Through permanent galleries, multimedia displays, and rotating special exhibitions, the museum introduces visitors to the major events that transformed Korea from the late nineteenth century into a thriving democratic nation.
