[교육연합신문=이윤서 학생기자]
August 15th is a meaningful day to Koreans. It is the Liberation day of Korea, Gwangbokjeol. On Gwangbokjeol, we put the Korean flag, Taegeukgi up to remember and thank those who has let us liberate.
Let's travel back to the time. On August 29th, 1910, Japan–Korea Annexation Treaty was concluded. Then, Korea has suffered colonization until August 15th, 1945, when they were finally liberated.
During this 35 years, a lot of people worked for the end of colonization. So on every Gwangbokjeol, Koreans put their flag up high to remember and think about their nation again, which came back to them thanks to the patriotic martyrs.
A lot of people, even with their names unknown, has stood up for the country to fight their fatherland back.
Yu Gwansun, Lee Bongchang, An Junggeun, and more has lead Independence Movement. They are known to a lot of people. But we should also keep in mind the ones who have sacrificed their lives for liberation of Korea, who we don't know names
This year's Gwangbokjeol is more meaningful as they celebrate 80th anniversary of it. Please take your Taegeukgi out and put it up high and recall patriotic martyrs for the country.
