Korea's intangible cultural heritage encompasses a rich tapestry of traditions, performances, and practices that embody the essence of Korean identity. This heritage is not only about preserving physical artifacts; it’s also about maintaining the cultural __EXPRESSION__s that define our society. Some of the most significant elements of this heritage include traditional music (gugak), dance, and crafts.

Traditional Music (Gugak)

Gugak, or traditional Korean music, has deep historical roots and reflects the various regions and cultures within Korea. It includes various genres such as court music, folk music, and religious music.

Court Music (Jeongak): This genre was performed in royal palaces and is characterized by its sophisticated melodies and instruments like the gayageum (a twelve-stringed zither) and the daegeum (a bamboo flute). Court music often accompanies traditional dances and ceremonies.

Folk Music (Minyo): Folk songs vary by region and are often sung during agricultural activities or festivals. One of the most famous folk songs is "Arirang," which expresses the sorrow of parting and longing.
